Chris Cornell at Centennial Hall, London

Tonight we went to see Chris Cornell at Centennial Hall. The opening act, Mobile, was already in full swing by the time we got to the venue and it wasn’t too long before Cornell walked on stage with his merry band. The opening song was from his new album, Scream, which comes out in February next year, but didn’t really impress all that much, lacking in power and with a lot of commercialised pop repetition. When the Audioslave and Soundgarden numbers started rolling, everyone immediately had more fun at the gig. Some of the songs took me back to when I’d seen Soundgarden in Australia in the mid nineties, at the height of their career with the Superunknown album. The gig went for about two hours in total, which included a long acoustic section towards the end, and finished with a three-song encore.
