Abduction

We were driving all day and we stop because it is HOT, and I refuse to look for a camp anymore. I want to sit in the shade. And so Patrick goes on to check out some spots, whereas I take it easy and sit in the shade. Only to be hollered at by a guy sitting under a tree in the shade. He actually reminds me A LOT of my little brother Michael – in his attitude and his eyes and general body shape. he tells me to drink HIS drink, and I say no, and just like Michael would with some stranger, he called me on my bullshit, told me (in gestures :P) to cut the snotty crap and drink his cold drink as opposed to my hot water boiled over by both the bike and the sun. I gave in, and said goodbye when Patrick came back with a campsite.

And what a campsite it proved to be. Patrick found a little dessert paradise. Completely isolated. So we thought.

Out of nowhere our friend appears. Apparently it is his job to watch the bridge and the surrounding area. (we have yet to determine WHY one watches the bridge. Its finished, no one can steal it, its not a water supply except for the crops, and they all toss their trash into it because it conveniently washes away the dirt. So uhmm, yeah).

Anyway, he tells us we CAN camp there, if that is our wish. But then he draws scorpions. And also some snakes. And tells us they hide under rocks. We should come with him and sleep at his place. He needs to work all night but thats Ok. We can sleep there anyway. We tell him we drive all day and are too tired, the result looking like this:

OR we could sleep at the bridge. Patrick takes this to mean the fenced off area we had seen earlier. What he really meant was the literal bridge. But that we were not to worry. He had a gun in his car (he showed it to Patrick) and he would watch us all night and shoot anyone who was to bother us. (Did I mention he had wads of cash in his wallet? American and Turkish? No? well I just did.)

So now we are on the bridge that needs to be watched (from what we don’t know) and about to sleep next to the river with a man with a gun in his car watching us. it was a little unnerving.

We woke up this morning with blood all over our tent. Just not from what you may expect. the mosquitoes ATE us alive, and everyone that Patrick killed at about 2 am exploded a streak of blood. I lost count this morning at 20.

Im itchy even after my shower.

Dude however had not murdered us in our sleep, but HAD entwined a red rose into my handle bar to go with my plastic yellow flowers.

And upon arriving at his house for breakfast (which was down a 15 minute dusty road) we were again treated to Turkish hospitality as he laid out a full breakfast and introduced us to his kids, who were the sweetest little things ever (and like a good sister the girl totally beat up on the brother). ;)

AND the best part. Both kids wanted to go for a ride, but in the end it was the little girl (who is younger and is only 6 versus her 8 year old brother) who actually sat on the bike and went for a ride!
