J9 And The Bavarians

And so began the next (of a never ending stream) of the changing of plans. From the 11th to the 14th, from heading straight to Austria to heading straight through Germany. We had a mission – meet Saskia and Andreas in a gas station just outside Dachau (and the timing was perfect, ok it was 2 pm and a mere 4.5 hours AFTER we originally planned to meet, but we both arrived at the exact same time at the station). They did however bring the rain, and the rain did not leave, not at least for the next 5 and a half hours it would take us to get to Passau.
Janine warned us it might be tight. We were 4, and she had 2 friends visiting from Newfoundland, and apartments in Germany are not known for being spacious. But a little booze, and one German (minus his Canadian girlfriend, who opted for the cool crowd room) camping in the stinky shoe pile, and we had a most awesome night and place to stay. (The food, ooooo the food).
The next morning however came with a surprise. We had parked in a no parking zone, and as much as the Germans fight amongst themselves about how different each group is, there is one thing they all share. Everyone hates a rule breaker. And the one thing they all love to do (even more than the hate they feel for the rule breaker) is to see that rule breaker punished. And our bikes all had nice new tickets. And Janine´s shop gremlin of a neighbor was practically busting with gloat when we went out the next morning to our surprise. (But maybe not so much as when I dropped my bike in front of her shop and busted out my mirror).
ahem.
But we gained a travel companion! Flat Stanley!
