The Great Turtle Rescue

20. Août 2008 | en

I was going to call this post ‘Go Go turtle saver’ as for some reason the theme for Power Rangers is running through my head, and this (to me anyway) seems to fit. Mind you the soundtrack that runs through my head on this trip is flat out strange, but mostly repetitive, with Christina AguileraÂŽs Dirty being number one. Not because of any great love for it, but because I am, flat out, dirty most days. I live in a tent, and the fact that I sweat from the time I wake up to the time I sleep, the song just seems appropriate for this time in my life. :P )

Anyway my lack of hygiene on this trip is not the subject of this post (though I have debated doing a post on the bio hazard that constitute my leather pants). What the post is about is our daring rescue of none other than a turtle.

A turtle found in the middle of a road in the middle of a mountain. Ok so we had just entered the valley, but STILL! Biology class did not teach me that turtles live in mountain areas that are practically deserts! Just sitting in the middle of the road!

My thought process went something like this:

1. His name is Marvin! (he looks like a Marvin)

2. There has to be a way to strap him on back of my bike. We will look so cute togehter.

3. ( OCD over ridding all else) Turtles have GERMS!! Stop Patrick from touching him with his bare hands. GAAAAAAAAA

4. Put on gloves carry Marvin across the street. In the opposite direction in which he was going.

5. F%&K F&%K F%&K DROP THE TURTLE ITS MOVING.

6. Good job on not dropping him. Let him be happy in his new life.

7. WTF???? He is going BACK to the road.

Serious, this turtle had a death wish. So I slapped back on the gloves (I admit the germ thing is not what it was, after all the fact I put my hands every day into gloves that I sweat on average a liter of water into and some salt for added nutrition for whatever is growing in there proves how far I have in fact come!)

This time I carried him further off the side of the road, and he seemed content in going his way, AWAY from the road. or maybe just from me and my shriek. ;)
