So we were driving and we pull over and stop. Turkey has been hot, but not unbearably so. The past 2 days however were HOT. So hot we found it hard to breath type thing. Like we thought it would be fun to turn on the oven and climb in. Just for kicks. Unlike the rest of Turkey we have lost the wind. We just have hot, dead air, hot hot hot. As in 55 degrees. We would have taken a picture of it but it was so hot we didnt even want to stop.
We arrived at mamure castle at about 2 30 in the afternoon, just in time to let the sun bake us as we walked around. ;) It was too early to stay and sleep however so onwards we went. But not before swimming in the sea of course. ;)
Onwards to one of the problems here. The never present menu. This is my pet peeve in turkey, particularly in tourist spots. You ask for a menu and there is none. So obviously there is a difference between what you pay and a Turkish person pays. We have mostly been avoiding prime tourist spots, and therefore we have had little to no problems. Food has been cheap and delicious.
This time however we were just ripped off. When we were told the price we could tell she was just making it up in her head. We were hungry however, and it was late, and we decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. We have paid 10 YTL for kebab, but the kebab came with rice, and roasted veggies, and salad, and bread, and A LOT of meat. This one came with a pitiful salad and scraps of meat. We paid, but not before telling her we just got ripped off and we knew it. She even had water on the bill that we hadn’t asked for. (They always give it to you, and if you open it you pay for it, otherwise you dont, she just stuck it on the bill despite it not being opened). We left furious, and only slightly validated by the little rant we had together.
But then I reminded again that these people in turkey are the rarity. We pulled into a little parking place for the beach below to debate the best place to camp for the night. In pulls a family behind us, and then we feel a tap on our shoulders. First we were given grapes, then peaches, then figs, and then Lachumen (again however you spell it) made by their daughter. They refused to take no for an answer, and just kept eating with us and showing us on the map where they were from. Then as quickly as it began it was over, they smiled, wished us luck, and they took off in the opposite direction.
