The Kindness Of Strangers Astounds Me

The day was hardly a fast start. The lure of the internet kept pulling us, as did Skype´s taunts and teases that one of the files we were transferring may just go through. But at 96%, 2 hours left, and it already being 4 in the evening, we finally gave in and just decided to leave and head for those castles in the sea we had heard about. The plan was to camp there, and enjoy the view!
The problem however was the place was jam packed with tourists.
And though we figured it would die down in time, after reading Ed´s story about being woken in his skivvies on that same beach (you can find it here: Ed Visits Castles And Policemen Tell Him to Put His clothes Back on. I think the fact that they arrived a little earlier in the year really helped the non touristy aspect of the visit!
And so we decided to continue on, but we hit the next city much faster than anticipated, and it was nothing but city for the next 300 kms or more. So we pulled off the road in the hopes of finding a campsite, and instead we found the scariest area of Turkey ever. It looked more like a third world slum, and even Patrick did not seem comfortable pitching up a tent. So we decided to ask for help.
And we were given it! In the best stroke of luck the trip so far we asked a guy on the side of the road, who told us he spoke no English, but his friends did. And we found ourselves not given directions but invited straight in to stay the night in his compound, because outside was just not safe.
Bruno and his wife had friends with them for supper, but we were welcomed in, and told that we should not pitch our tent but stay up on the roof, as it offered a fantastic view of both the area (which was much prettier from above) and the night sky.
We even had a visitor at night, their little Siamese cat, who somehow got up there with us, but was unable to get down. So Patrick had to rescue her!
