Night Of The Horny Deer

22. September 2008 | en

The ride through the rain continued. We woke up and headed straight to Croatia, or a 15 minute drive. ;) We had planned to visit a national park, and enjoy the ride. However as we sat drinking our morning coffee watching the rain alternate with drizzle we knew the trip was coming to an end. It had been raining since our second day in Albania. Although Montenegro gave us a slight reprieve, the rain was back with a vengeance. Enough to make riding uncomfortable, and camping next to impossible. (Its one thing when the tent is up and it rains, its another setting it up and suffering inside the tent with everything wet.) So we crossed the border and headed straight to Slovenia with no time spent in Croatia.

Day 94: Ride through Croatia, head straight for Slovenia!

When we crossed the border however the rain stopped, completely, not even drizzle! It was still overcast, but we took advantage of some riding in Slovenia, and we gasp! even camped!

We set up in a field, we beat the rain, we settled in for a little reading before bed. All was comfy and nice. And then CLOP CLOP Cloppety KLOP and a sound that sounded a cross between a savage wild cat and a really pissed off duck.

Horny deer.

I barely slept that night from fear that they would fight and crash into our tent causing permanent hoof shaped dents where my face use to be. Patrick moved the bikes so they would crash into the bike first, but once the adrenaline was released I was awake and that was it.

The next morning after an otherwise uneventful night:

You know what it is like to perpetually smell like burnt gasoline, or dirt under your fingernails from tires that refuse to keep their proper shape and pressure. Flies in your face, either too hot or too cold, but you refuse to submit to that fate of

Rallige Hirsche

Zeltplatz
