Paradise & Santa Claus

12. August 2008 | en

The ride along the Turkish Mediterranean has proven to be some of the best riding the trip so far (minus the Turkish coach drivers, I HATE them, but that rant is coming).

Joscha and Ed had recommended a camping site in Anriake without saying much about it other than it is beautiful. By beautiful they meant paradise – other than the mosquitoes (I am still not so sure that the giant clouds of smoke that the government pays a car to go around spewing out every night at 8 is safe, since it looks more like a forest fire had occurred, but we were assured it is safe because there was a bird sanctuary nearby and no one wanted to hurt the birds. Not the people. the birds).

The crazy and totally unexpected part about the trip was that the town was actually the village where the real Santa Claus lived and worked as an adult. Good Ole St. Nikolaus was a bishop there, and we only found it out (despite people saying half a dozen times we should check out St. Nikolaus church) when I wandered into town looking for food and was completely confused about all the Santa Claus paintings there were. And then I saw this:

and it all clicked into places.

Do not forget my Mensa nomination.

Karibik
