I hereby challenge Ed for the most drops of one bike in a single country. I was going to say in a single day, but I really think that this day alone may beat any amount of drops in any other country. seven. SEVEN drops today. EIGHT if you count the ferocious wind that blew her over, slamming her against the dirt, and bending her handle bar so that the ability to release much needed gas into my engine is not impaired, but broke. One hour and 2 Turkish farmers aid later we have her working again. Only to drop her again 15 minutes later when Patrick in his excitement over the possibility of fish stops on a coble stone hill. I have not been a fan of cobble stones since Passau when I unceremoniously dropped my bike breaking my mirror in front of Janine. But this was a stupid hill that was slanted from all approachable angles, My foot kept going, and by the time it made contact with the road the bike was far too gone for me to keep her upright.
Smash goes the bike.
Some choice swear words from me.
And a broken handle bar again.
Excellent.
Dropkick worthy, only 3 minutes later when she is up and I am driving away again I hear the screams and turn around to discover that all my shit that i have attached to the back of the bike has come off and is now scattered. My flipflops have never been found.
The good news is that despite all the drops (and in fairness 5 of the drops were on sand like dust roads, not dirt roads, fine grain dust roads, another was the above mentioned, and the final one was sheer stupidity when I chickened out going around the corner of a cliff – but it had no guard rails!).
We did however have some awesome scenery. Turkey by motorcycle is proving to be a fantastic decision. And our campsite this night made all the drops worth it. We were over looking the Mediterranean up the side of a mountain. Close enough to see the Greek islands, and even for my cell phone to switch providers and welcome me to Greece.
Patrick also dropped his bike today, but only after he tried to get her down from this:
