Finally We Meet!!! AKA The BRIDGE!!

19. July 2008 | en

So today we did it! Although we had planned to meet yesterday at 5, then 7, then today at 12 30, at 4 this afternoon we finally achieved the impossible! We met Ed and Joscha! And meet in style we did! For what else would a bunch of boys who have traveled long term do but test these motorcycle skills in a death defying bride crossing. A bridge that does not really exist that is!

Over lunch Joscha had met some Dutch who were traveling by bike (as in the pedal kind, respect, but gah no) who told them about a wild camping spot that was just like a paid camping spot – only the view was fantastic and you were alone. There was only one minor problem – the bridge, or more importantly, the lack thereof of one. Rather the bridge was being rebuilt, and consisted of a lot of rebar (or whatever they use to build bridges) and a plank of wood. No problem for the pedal bikes, not so much for bikes powered by heavy engines.

To go around the river? An extra 30 kms one way.

Hell no apparently.

We have it on video, I can not give words to the terror or the experience, however my regular squawk is upgraded to nails on chalk board shrieking, I wont post it here until it has been edited and fit for viewing.

Patrick drove both Betty and Wilma across. F&%k that.

But on the other side I was greeted by a Romanian farmer who declared that I am the freak (muy freako I do believe he said) for being a girl and driving my own bike. Not the 3 who risked neck and bike to get across.

sigh.

Well worth it for the site however, and we discovered why weed is called weed, because it grows like one. So we burned a bush just to be able to say we did. ;)

Vehicle to this place: Motorbike

You know what it is like to perpetually smell like burnt gasoline, or dirt under your fingernails from tires that refuse to keep their proper shape and pressure. Flies in your face, either too hot or too cold, but you refuse to submit to that fate of
