So we have begun the slow return home! By slow return I mean real slow, as we will not be home until October. But we have reached our Easterly goal, and we expect to be in Greece in a week. And though I will miss Turkey, I will not miss its gas prices! (almost 2 Euros a liter, I WANT MY MOMMY!!!!)

Cappadochia has again proved to me that just as I think I have seen the best that Turkey has to offer, it gives us something better. Or maybe just amazingly different. I would still be hard pressed to chose my favorite place in Turkey. So maybe better is not the correct word. But this trip is making me fall in love with life again, and has made a full year and almost a quarter of ESL (Ive never gone longer than 12 months before, and I always take MONTHS off in between contracts) dare I say it – worth it. :P

I could tell you all about the cool cities carved into rocks, how we are skipping the open air museum because the whole area is so amazing and there are lots of little places you can just enter without paying the crazy price asked for in the open air museum. But when the pictures are uploaded (which may be a while, for some reason the upload is not being friendly today) you will see all of that for yourself. So I would rather tell you about how boys should listen to the girls. It makes for a much more entertaining story anyway. ;)

This morning was spent checking out a little church carved in rock and then exploring the valley it was in. As it was across the street from our campsite we walked. And Patrick thought it would be an awesome place to go off roading in the sunset. I flat out said no. I knew exactly what that soft sand would mean for me and Betty, and more importantly, Patrick and I. Three magic words: Temper tantrum diva.

So after a morning of exploring on foot, and an afternoon on the bike, we dropped my bike off at the camp site, took Wilma into the valley, and proceeded to bury her in 3 feet of sand.

One hour later we were out. :P

Unterirdische Stadt

Nach dem Berg Nemrut, ging’s weiter nach Kapadokien, berühmt für seine Tufflandschaft. Wind und Regen haben bizarre Felsformationen aus dem weichen Gestein geformt.

Aber nicht nur die Natur hat Hand angelegt sondern auch der Mensch. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte entstanden ganze unterirdische Städte die vor allem in Kriegszeiten als Fluchtorte dienten. Mit Hilfe eines Führers haben wir eine unterirdische Stadt erkundet. Bis zu 5 Stockwerke sind in den Fels gehauen. Die einzelnen Räume sind durch ein kompliziertes Labyrinth aus Gängen, Schächten und Luftlöchern miteinander verbunden. Irgendwie waren wir froh als wir wieder draußen waren.
