Never A Dull Day

02. August 2008 | en

Never can you say that you have a boring day. Today was a low key day. We wanted to drive not to the Effes ruins, but close enough that we could then get up and go the next morning without a lot of driving. We did however stop at along the beach and cool off for an hour.

It was to be a calm day.

Enter Izmir. We never should have went into the city after spending almost 2 hours at the beach. But we thought we had time.

it was Saturday night.

Our map sucks.

We got lost twice.

And the highway finally spat us out 100 kms away from where we wanted to be.

In the dark.

We had two choices, find a camp fast, OR go to a hotel. We decided to try for the camp fast option.

We were attacked by wild dogs before a farmer scared them off and then told us of course we could camp there.

So began the confusion.

He ran off and then we heard yelling, of the not so friendly variety.

Up comes a new farmer, and he asks if we are married (we say, ahem yes, lets see if my fake marriage fares better than my fake engagement, all in the interest of cultural understanding of course!). He then says something about the tent, then makes milking the sheep noises and motions. It was as surreal and embarrassing as that scene on Meet The Parents when Bill Stillers character does the same.

Anyway we assume we have been invited to watch. We dont want to but after we set up the tent off we go.

We go down the little hill and we hear angry Turkish. We freeze, and then we move from Meet The Parents only to enter a scene from The Simpsons. we had the hounds released on us! Chased up the hill by a pack of dogs!!!

I wish it was the end, but after they finally left us we tried to eat some bread and cheese and olives, this time ANOTHER farmer comes up. Again making motions to pack up our food, again making sheep noises (and Patrick thinks he is talking about a rabbit????), I think he invites us down to share our food, and we start to follow him when he orders us to STOP, and go to bed.

Baaaaaaa

crazy.
