Abfahrt

Stress, Stress, Stress!
Eine Stunde später bekam ich dann den Anruf: „Patrick, I’m sorry, you have to drive my bike home yourself…“ SCHEISSE dachte ich, alles Üben hat nichts geholfen!
Doch dann kam die Erleichterung: „Ha ha I fooled you!“ Also konnte es doch losgehen! :-)

You know what it is like to perpetually smell like burnt gasoline, or dirt under your fingernails from tires that refuse to keep their proper shape and pressure. Flies in your face, either too hot or too cold, but you refuse to submit to that fate of

We Be Delayed

11. July 2008 | en

We, despite making it no further than Oma’s, are on our trip! It reminds me of the time as a kid I decided to run away. I packed all my plastic dishes and went to the top of the hill (this was 6 houses past my house, and 3 past where I was allowed by myself). From this viewpoint I had it all, I felt all the danger of being where I was not allowed (take that mooma!), and the possibility to hide in the bushes and sneak back into my house when food was needed.

Sadly this act of independence lasted about 15 minutes, when I was bored without my brothers, and devastated when my mother failed to come rushing out of the house screaming my name (as obviously she had to know I ran away). When I cam back my mother had assumed I was playing in the 3 house limit with a friend. And I sadly put back my dishes and decided home was Ok for now.

Oma’s is a place of good food and the best pretzels. And so I am not so sad the trip has been delayed – and we refuse to see it so. We are out of our apartment (we couldn’t go back if we wanted to, there are other people living in it :-P ), and we are in the process of getting the bikes ready. Even if at the moment its a disaster:

Day 29: Maybe We Leave On Sunday After All

I dont have to work, and this is just our first stop over on our 3 month trip to Turkey and back via the Black Sea, Greece and the Balkans!

Day 27: Love My Bike

Turkey Here We Come!!!!

27. July 2008 | en

The day of our trip began bright and sunny. it also began bright and early. We had plans to meet Patrick’s sister and her boyfriend just outside Salzburg in Austria for 9 30 am. Upon crawling out of bed at 6 30 am I was told I was going nowhere. Or at least Patrick was not. Oma had heard me get up and marched out to say that she sent Patrick to bed at 3 am, and there was no way he was getting up now to drive. She would call Saskia herself and inform her. Patrick mumbled some type of agreement and we pushed the meeting time back to 10. (It didnt matter so much HOW much more we slept, just that we slept some). ;)

However even that plan was to be a little sketchy. It turned out that despite a bright sunny day in Stuttgart, Konstance was pouring as was our planned ride from Munich and throughout Austria. The idea was tossed out that we wait one more day. However we were already 3 days late. Including a missed stop in Passau to visit my friend Janine and head off for a weekend of debauchery in Prague with her. However as we were now 3 days late instead of 2, they were back from Prague, and what better to start a trip then with friends in a former DDR sleepy city!
