yesterday we came into hugary and headed for the big lake, a touristy area that is in off season, we made the mistake of by passing the bigger town and came directly toward the lake…of course we hadn\t yet gotten any food and we planned to wild camp…..our mistake became apparent soon enough… we got to the lake and nearly everything was closed. no stores were open, so groceries weren’t happening, which meant that wild camping was out, then there was the fact that the season had yet to start so most camping grounds were not yet open either!!!!! shit, and what else, as usual we were running out of day lite!!!! what else is new…we have still some kinks to work out in our planning….then lo and be hold…an open camp ground and they have everything….including an internet connection, which is why you are getting so much info in a short time!!!!
i know that you are all waiting for pictures and i hope to be able to oblige you soon, unfortunately the cafes are not keen on allowing storage devices of any kind being hooked up for fear of virus transfers etc….so hopefully soon i’ll find some place were i can access the hard drive and up load the photos….i think it will be worth the wait….
our biggest issue has been coffee…..how ridicules is that…we both love coffee and since we haven’t found fuel for the stove and have been reluctant to by a different stove we are forced to go in search for coffee each morning, not a horrible thing, gives us a goal and motivation in the morning, but a steaming cup of coffee by the camp site in the morning would be sweet!!!
let me back trak to wed. it was a hard day in the sense that i had awoke with a head cold(freezing all nite!!) and i couldn’t get rid of my headache…makes for tough riding ….but to top it off we came across a stretch of sand dunes…as soon as i saw them i new that joscha would make an attempt to ride them because our original trip plan was north african desert, well we hit deep soft sand right off the road, let me tell you that i would ride deep mud puddles over that any day, that was all i needed but joscha wanted more and he got it ….he went in to this beautiful white sand in amongst some pine trees, it was really beautiful….very soon he was swimming in sand spinning his tire just to keep moving, eventually he got to firmer ground and turned to come back towards me…he headed straight for what appeared to be the deepest softest sand and sure as shit he sank to his axle, just like in the swamp but this time it wasn’t wet…now i’m thinking that he needs help to get his bike out, and i’m sitting sand myself, can’t stand the bike on the stand, so i head for firmer ground, but being very unstable i quickly loose control and dump my bike, now i’ve dump the bike before and i’ve had no trouble righting it but today my head is throbbing and my strength is not there, i could lift the damn bike, fortunately joscha’s bike is standing on it’s own at this point so he helped me get mine righted and to firm ground and then we both went and rescued his bike…..all in a day’s adventure….

love all your comments keep them coming…..til next time

top of the hill

ok, another cafe and trying to remember what happened three days ago…..well this spot was our most adventurous thus far…we took some gravel road up the mountain and came out in this clearing that over looked the valley bewlow, it was sunset and the view was, well adjectives are becoming so boring …...soon ićll get pictures on the site, which come to think of it might become boring as well because we are taking pecture of all our camping spots, to funny…..so in the morning we got a late start, the previous day had drain us….shopping in a city, dealing with traffic, not getting what we were looking for…..so we got packed up and hit the road, literally, i mean fuck….i had riden about 100feet and came to the bank down to the road…i was a little slow on my approach and the front wheel hit the ditch and i stopped, when i hit the gas my rear tire spun and since i couldn t reach the ground i lost it, falling over and rolling in a summer sault, it was a jolting way to get the blood flowing…..i wanted a coffee bad, so no damage, but we had to drag the rear of the bike off the bank in order to get it up right!!!!! now you might think that i’m learning something at this point, and certqainly you would be right, however i’m a slow learner, we hit the road again, yes literally…..another 100 feet along this mountain trail we come to some water…..not a puddle, several, water filled ruts, now i had sucessfully managed water befaore and i was feeling pretty good, even though i had just pick my bike up off the dirt 1 minuter before, so my thinking was to avoid the water and stay high on the top of the rut, the bike and mud thought differently, before i knew what was happening i’m kissing the good earth again….now i’ve gotten into the habit of fumping up and turning off the engine immediately, not a difficult thing to do, this time however, as i turned and steped toward the bike i slid into the puddle that my bike is lying in, holy shit, the water was so deep it went right over the top of my boot and filled it…..oh kay, i’m awake now!!!! getting the bike upright this time was a bit more challenging and then we had to actually get it out of this mess! Thank god for joscha! he managed toget the bike thru the resst of the way and back again. we thought going back the way came and laying in the sun to dry out, was best…found out that my boxes are not water tight, the side that was laying in the water was half full with water, luckily all our things are in ziplock bags!!!!!!
so after drying out, we got going and had a great day of riding, the hills are getting bigger and the roads more intense, we crossed into croatia today
